SUSAN DOROTHEA WHITE is an internationally exhibiting artist, acclaimed by New York and European critics. A painter, sculptor and printmaker with a career spanning 50 years she has produced a large body of work in a diverse range of media that includes mixed-media sculpture assemblages, bronze, stone and woodcarving. She has produced paintings in oils, acrylic, collage, and watercolour. Her printmaking techniques are lithography, woodblock and etching. Drawing is the foundation of her art. She prefers pen for sketching, and experiments with silverpoint, goldpoint and pastel mixed-media.
She is author of ‘Draw Like Da Vinci’ (2006), illustrated with her artwork and published in English, Danish, Hungarian and French ‘Dessiner à la manière de Léonard de Vinci’ (2007).
Born Adelaide, South Australia 1941.
She studied full-time at South Australian School of Art, Adelaide (1959–mid 1960) and Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney (mid 1960–61). Sculpture studies, National Art School, Sydney under Lyndon Dadswell (mid 1960–61). She held her first solo exhibition in Broken Hill in 1962. Other solo exhibitions include Braidwood 2010 (forthcoming), New York 1998, Cologne 1991, Amsterdam 1990, Sydney 1986, Munich 1980, Sydney 1980, 1979, 1978, 1977, Adelaide 1972. She has participated in group exhibitions since 1958 and has represented Australia in more than 50 international exhibitions and biennales.
